Broken Window Serenade
by
Whiskey Myers
A couple of pretty flowers
Is what I brought I to you
I saw you through a broken window
With a different point of view
You had signs of depression
From a long line of sin
And your face tells a story
Bout the places you have been
I love you so,
I thought you should know
And that muddy waters flowin
As you take my hand
Past the creek down by the holler
Through your daddies land
I could buy you a diamond
But I cannot change your world
Cuz I aint got no money
Youll never be my girl no no
I thought you should know
You was gonna be a singer
Or be a movie star
But you cant catch no breaks baby
And Hollywood is hard
Now you work down at the time out
Off 155
And youre dancing for your dollar
Just tryin to stay alive
It hurts me so
I thought you should know
You feed your addiction
With your crystal meth
And I plea for your life
as it takes you to your death
You make your deal with the devil
As your looks begin to fade
I saw you laughin through the tears
As you slowly slipped away
I watched you go
I thought you should know
Yeah I watched you go
I thought you should know
That cold rain is pourin
As they lower you in a grave
I can barely recognize you
In your fragile state
No more signs of depression
From a long time ago
I throw in a pretty flower
As they slowly laid you low, it was a rose
I thought you should know
Yeah it was a rose
I thought you should know
A couple of pretty flowers is what I brought to you
I saw you through a broken window
With a different point of view..

I have always loved Whiskey Myers which is why I find it so hard to bevieve that I have just now discovered this song within the last week or so. I absolutly love this song, and it is by far one of their best songs. I believe this song is about a man who believes he loves this girl and I think they even had something to begin with but it slowly grew apart. I think he still loves her though which is why he cant get over her and which is why he had essentially followed her entire life. He cant help but just watch as she strives to go out for bigger and better things but the only thing that comes out of it is an even harder life. This almost reminds me of Jennies charactor in the movie "Forest Gump" but instead of coming back and getting better her life is taken by the choices that she has made. This is really a tragic song, he has lost the woman he loves but no matte where she went or what she did he still loved her to the very end. . . to bad he never stepped up maybe things could have been different.
i have this cd and listen to this song every morning! i love it. although i do see it a little different.instead of him never getting the guts to talk to her or be with her, i see maybe it is her that pulls away from what could have been between them. when it says "A couple of pretty flowers
ReplyDeleteIs what I brought I to you" to me shows that he did in a way stepped up and tried to be with her but maybe because of her obvious rough past or "long line of sin." she didnt thing she was good enough for him. maybe she lets him think that she wants something or something more to save him from herslef. if i am making any since haha. but i think its switched around i guess. very good song! glad you did a post over it i like the way you consture this song. :)
I absolutely love this song. I'm a huge Whiskey Myers fan, and this song exemplifies the reasons why. I love the imagery they use in Broken Window Serenade. Even though I can't physically see the song, every time I hear it, I can't help but get a picture of the girl in my head. It's a very dark, sad song, but I love it none the less.
ReplyDeleteVery good Song and i totally agree on your point of veiw of the song! To be honest i dont listen to a whole bunch of music and i have never heard of this group which probably sounds pretty lame, but now that i know them i plan to listen to there music cause they are quite good.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard this song before now, and I probably would have just skipped over it if you didn't choose to write a blog about it. It's kind of weird the first time you listen to it, but after I read through the lyrics a couple of times I began to see things the way you describe them. It's definitely a different kind of song, but it's great!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find out who the girl is this song is about. I am from Tyler and no one seems to know her name can anyone help me
ReplyDeleteThis song is actually a true song about one of his good friends who was a Drug addict and he tried so many times to pull her away from the demons but they were to strong with in her and she died from an overdose

ReplyDeleteThe song is about a friend of his that he grew up with that was in love with a troubled girl that eventually died from a meth overdose.
ReplyDeleteIt’s about every girl.... every girl that gets addicted to meth, and every poor son of a b***h that falls in love with one.
